Ok, I own 2 pet ducks. I live in the suburbs of Louisiana by Lake Ponchartrain. The most wild thing I have ever seen in my yard is a possum and that was years ago. Well, I heard a noise one night. I ran downstairs and my duck was gone. The next day my male duck was gone. I found his body between a fence. My two uncles, one a vet, the other a hunter, examined him. The bite crushed his entire body. The predator hoisted an 8lb duck over an 8 foot fence with only a drop of blood here and there. They have concluded it was a coyote, a bobcat, or a raccoon. Any ideas? and how to trap it? Also, how do i bait it? As I bought a game camera and the only thing it caught was a common house cat exploring. Thanks....

Love all the either humorous or stupid answers. I have raised exotic fowl for 35 years.

Problem is, most predators living in populated areas are extremely smart, and hard to catch or kill. Then if you do, others fill the void in weeks. Either cage up at night, very secure, get a dog to protect, or go on a intervention program. My experience has been the dogs are only near fail proof method. My Malakli at 33-40" and 160-260# keep all but the most stupid of predators away.

Just be careful with traps or likewise, as neighbours animals may be hurt.

Good luck.

IF you want more ducks you must protect them from the natural predators in your area. With just 2 ducks, I'd bring them in at night, or put them into a safe dog crate at night. I do that with my 2 chickens. I would let the wild animals be. But they know a free meal when it comes their way and you provided it. So before getting more 'food' for them, ponder the above.

Amateur necromancers can bring back a duck. Pick up "Necromancy for DUmmies" from your local library and bring back the duck. Unleash the duck's newfound undead powers to beat up the predator.
