1. Some birds like the little tents, some don't....Personally go ahead and get one if you lie, but keep in mind they will get poop all over it and I have to wash mine about every 3 days. If they eat their poop(yes one of my birds did one time that was on their tent) They can get Giardia and get really sick! I would get one, if they don't use it within 2 weeks...they're probably never going to, or at least mine didn't and I took mine back to the store!

2. They don't use flavor on all the toys for the wood. I know most of my toys are made with manzanita wood. If you're going to make your own toys, you have to wash them thouroughly, and then you have to bake them so that all the critters are out, its a pretty lengthy process...Although I get my handmade toys from a friend, but this is the process she has described to me! Parrots cost a lot of money just like any other pet, this should have been something you took into consideration before getting a bird!

3. Stainless Steel is the best type of metal for them. Anything that contains zinc will kill them, one of my friends parrotlets, just died from biting on galvanized wire, which had been dipped in zinc.

4. My birds don't really go near their cuttle bones, and yes I buy flavored ones for them, its not a gimick.

5. Depending on what type of parrot you have, is different, if there were more details I could be more specific. I have a Sun Conure and I have to clip his about every 3 months or so. Versus my lovebirds I have to clip them every other month!

6. No you don't have to make their seeds soft. HOWEVER you shouldn't be feeding ANY PARROT SEEDS. It is a misconception by a lot of bird owners that you just give them seed, and call it good. Seed is to birds as twinkies are to humans. They may taste good, but they are EXTREMELY fattening, and offer little to no nutritional value, and almost all birds will die much earlier than their average lifespan due to fatty liver disease! You need to cut up fresh fruits and veggies, bread is also good to give them. To give you an idea birds should eat 25% of their body weight a day. So lets say you have a 100 gram bird....he should eat 25 grams of food a day. Of that only 10% of his food should be seed, and thats being very generous..so that would mean that your bird should only have about 2 grams of seed per day. I only offer seed as a treat to my birds. You can give birds almost anything, but avocado, and chocolate, and anything else with a big pit such as peaches. If you do give them peaches, try to give them the fruit that is closer to the skin, rather than closer to the center near the pit. 40% of their diet should be veggies, broccoli being an excellent choice, roughly 20% breads etc, and about 30% fruits. They also need fresh water daily, sometimes a couple times a day depending on your birds' habits!

Hope this advice helps!

Birds do not use beds, unless it is nesting. Toys are made from pine. You can buy your own wood or use old thread spools, any large bells of metal are good, jingle bells are dangerous, the little holes they get toes and beaks caught in. Soup bones make good toys you can run rope through and knot it. Manzanitta is good strong wood but it is protected growing wild, so to buy it you pay as much as if you bought the whole toy! Cuttle bone is real fish bone. Larger parrots need a mineral block for their larger beaks. Wings need clipping about every 3-5 weeks, keep an eye on the growth of the individual. Once weaned and out of the nest a baby parrot eats whole hard seeds. You can make a mash of soaked seed or soaked monkey biscuits and leave this out for them for a while.

I didn't read all of your other questions, just the first one. Birds/parrots need more then just a seed diet. Needs to be varied with a good pellet as the main staple, some seeds(very small amount), and lots of fruits and veggies. Make sure you start that now, otherwise she won't take to the pellet or veggies very well, and will only want seeds. Also try some chicken or eggs, mine loves those. My African Grey usually gets some of whatever we're eating for dinner as well. You're bird is young, so you need to make sure you monitor that she's eating. She may revert back and want her formula. Do a search online, I popped in the name and got lots of hits with some good info. There are some woods that are toxic to parrots, off hand I can't remember what. Also some foods as well-I know avocado is very bad for them. As far as the pet bed, thing, don't recall where I saw it, but did read that it wasn't recommended using one. And also, you're breeder should've told you all the basic care info before you bought the bird.

Ok. First off, are you sure that you should be asking questions like this on an online site like this? I don't know if it is the wisest thing to trust a bird's life that you are obviously unable to take care of without assistance in the hands o people you've never met before.

Now for your questions-

First of all, 'my Alex' doesn't NEED treats all of the time. You can hold off for a while if you can't afford him, er, his treats.

Also, it's gimmick. And cuttle fish bones are fine.

Oh, and why do you think that a bunch of people online are going to know better than the BREEDER YOU BOUGHT THE BIRD THAT YOU ARE NOT GOOD AT TAKING CARE OF FROM?!? Listen to your breeder, or talk to a vet. Or maybe someone who could take a little better care of this bird? Because so far you seem really bad at this job.

I'm not trying to be one of those people who jump the gun and say 'ooohh! keeping a raccoon as a pet is animal cruelty, go die!!' but you are asking an awful lot of questions for someone that already owns the bird. You need to get better help then people on a public website like this. You should have asked these questions BEFORE you got the bird.

Good luck with keeping your bird, get some help off of the computer screen.

cuttlefish bones are good. u usually have to give bird milk to a 8 week old baby and u should give it small seeds. wings should be clipped when they are able to fly again. just make sure it doesn't grow too long. zinc is poison to birds. u can make your own toys. i made some and my bird likes it. mine likes ti play with beads and strings hanging from the cage. try that. that's all.
