What does a loon do...?

what do you call it when a loon does.... whatever it does? like a cow moos or a pig oinks. Im writing an essay mentioning a loon (looning) and i really can't write anything else because this is bugging me now lol

Most people just say a loon calling across the lonely lake. or some such - you can go to - "what do you call a loons sound" --that is what i just typed in---and see all the stuff people have written- one says howl and a lot say sad- Most likely you can just type in how loons have been mentioned in literature for good examples- because loons calls have been used for over a century.

There is no official name for the call of a loon (or most birds for that matter), but most people refer to the loons call as a "wail".

The sound you are looking for is a "call" Birds have many different sounds they use, some are mating rituals, some are to express distress or danger, some are just for location. The somewhat haunting sound of a loon is one of my favorite bird calls.
