Question:
help to identify bird spotted in garden today?
2010-12-25 16:33:13 UTC
I spotted an unusual bird this morning. It was feeding with green finches and sparrows. It looked similar colouring to a sparrow but with a white markings on the wings. The face and part of the cap are white and the beak is different to a sparrow, more similar to a robin in shape. I thought it could be a tree sparrow but I don't think the markings are correct. I live in the Western Isles of Scotland. Can anyone help identify it please? Thank you in anticipation.http://flic.kr/p/94yRrV

Your bird is a Snow Bunting , and not a Tree Sparrow or a Sparrow.

The Snow Bunting is an Arctic Tundra bird and do migrate south in severe winters.

Look up Snow Bunting on the web. and you will see

Edit =mindflux no matter if my answers are correct or not there always are two downmarkers that can do nothing else.but down mark

Wacky seems to be correct.

Have a look at RSPB site below. They are more common here at parts during winter

Could be a Chaffinch? Use this website (I set it to chaffinch) you can type in any common name or pick a letter and just browse them all http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/c/chaffinch/index.aspx
