Quakers vs. Cockatiels?

I love birds and my lovebird just recently died of an unknown cause. I thought at first that I wanted a cockatiel, but then I saw a quaker parrot and fell in love. As far as size I hear they're about the same and I have a cockatiel cage right now. Will the quaker break through the bars, cause they're kinda thin. Which one is more friendly, is the quaker unbearably loud, which one needs more attention, and do either of them have any bad habits that I should be aware of? And, are the quakers okay around kids, provided the kids don't poke or abuse them?

The cage I have for a cockatiel, lovebird parakeet is much diffrent then the one I use for conures, ring necks and if they were legal in my state a Quaker.

The cage is an honest concern, I'd reccomend buying a larger one if you decide on a Quaker though I don't know the exact size or bar spacing so I can't really give you an honest suggestion.

Its all personal really, but if you want a Quaker and the opportunity presents itself, I say go for it. There isnt really any place to start so you'll need to research a little extra before bringing home a quaker (they aren't at all like cockatiels)

I would say a Quaker is prone to having more personality both positively and negatively. From what I can tell Quakers are quite mischievous more so then the conures and certainly more then the Tiels. I've never met one in person (Like I said illegal here) but I have dealt with cockatiels and conures so I can say I would almost always go with the larger of the two (A conure)

I like the attitude they have, though let's be honest cockatiels can have quite the attitude as well!

Quakers are as good with kids as the kids are with them, so long as you supervise the kids around the bird and don't purchase an aggressive bird (Id reccomend buying an older one so you can avoid the 'terrible twos') you'll be fine.

1) I would say the Quaker is more friendly but that's mostly judged individually by bird to bird not species.

2) I don't know exactly how thin I'd need a number to know for sure, I'd buy a bigger cage to be sure

3) I have a sun conure right now and she doesn't bother me at all-- so I don't know you'd have to hear one for yourself

4) Quaker needs more attention but every pet bird should be given all of the attention you can give.

5) Yes, but again it's mostly bird to bird.

Best of luck :)

If you want a quiet bird, get a Cockatiel.

If you want a friendly bird, get a Cockatiel.

If you want your kids to be safe, get a Cockatiel.

If you want a bird that doesn't require much attention, get a Cockatiel.

All these facts are true. Look it up yourself.

Quakers usually can't break through cage unless it's bamboo or wood. Quakers require a bigger cage than the Cockatiel so get one a little bigger.

I love my quaker, she is such a doll. My quaker has a loud fit 1 time a day for about 5-7 mins a day as the sun goes down. Other then that she is so sweet, she greets me with kisses whenever she sees me, she eats dinner with me. But, she isn't so needy that she can't spend time alone and play in her cage. I think quakers are wonderful, and if you can get one you certainly should!

quaker's beaks are much stronger than cockatiel so the bar strength may be a concern. quaker's are rather loud and they need more attention than the cockatiel. i haven't had much experience with quaker's but i have heard that they go through a pretty rough sexual maturity period where they turn a bit more aggressive for a while.

I believe Quakers are a bit loud for any condominium and even if he/she works out on your current location, the same could now not go for future leases. I think a inexperienced Cheek or a feminine Cockatiel could be the high-quality picks for rental residing. I love each however would lean towards the Cockatiel, as long as the dirt isn't an quandary.
