You need to find a wildlife rehabilitator in your area. A bird this young is difficult to raise if you do not know what you are doing so this would be best for you and the bird. Newly hatched nestlings need to be fed every 15-30 minutes! If you are in the US you can contact the Fish and Wildlife Service and they will get you in touch with the nearest rehabilitator.

Ground Insects – Termites, Beetles, Ants, Winged Insects – Mosquitoes, Flies, Moths, Foliage Insects – Scale, Bugs, Aphids, Insect Larvae, Spiders, Caterpillars, Crickets & Worms.

All these birds eat insects and bugs which contain meat (protein), cereal and grain extracts (carbohydrates) and other minerals. Some will eat mice and small animals / reptiles or pick at animal carcasses.

Foods 1

A simple and effective food for a magpie, is Pedigree Puppy kibble soaked in cold water for about 1 – 2 hours. The kibble is made from rice and contains vitamins and protein which have been found to be effective in raising birds.

Foods 2

A special magpie mix can be made from ½ cup of lean mincemeat (no preservatives), 4 teaspoons of Insectivore mix, 4 teaspoons of rice cereal, 2 teaspoons of bread crumbs. Mix a little water to make a

thick paste which can be rolled up into a pellet about 2 – 2.5cm long and 1 cm in diameter. About ¼ teaspoon of calcium powder should be added for bone and beak development.

Foods 3

1kg Minced Chicken Frames

2 Eggs (scrambled)

2 Weetbix

70gms Wombaroo Insectivore Mix

1/2 Cup Rice Cereal (optional)

1 Cup Grated Cheese

Add water if mix is too dry.

If this is a small baby then needs to be hand fed and warmed before fed. Put in a cool whip bowl with tissue for warmth then in a box and place heating pad under the outside of the bottom of box. After he is warm attempt to feed the bird when he gapes. Put in back of mouth. Can use end of a popsicle stick or a 1 cc syringe. Feed hand feeding formula that get at pet store and also get some meal worms there and feed those as well. If cannot then give him cat or dog food mushed up in tiny pieces that has been soaked in water. Do not force any water down him. If he is old enough to eat on own then offer food they eat is shallow dishes with shallow dish water. Best bet of the bird living is to contact a vet that sees and takes wildlife or can refer you to a wildlife rehabber in your area that will take and care for the bird then release in wild when ready. Good luck.

Family

Crows and allies (Corvidae)

Tin dog food will be excellent.

Overview

Magpies seem to be jacks of all trades - scavengers, predators and pest-destroyers, their challenging, almost arrogant attitude has won them few friends. With its noisy chattering, black-and-white plumage and long tail, there is nothing else quite like the magpie in the UK. When seen close-up its black plumage takes on an altogether more colourful hue with a purplish-blue iridescent sheen to the wing feathers, and a green gloss to the tail. Non-breeding birds will gather together in flocks.

Where to see them

Found across England, Wales and N Ireland, but more localised in Scotland, absent from the Highlands. Seen in a range of habitats from lowland farmland to upland moors.

When to see them

All year round.

What they eat

Omnivore and scavenger.

i found a sparrow dat had fallen out of its nest a couple of years back, we tried a few things like mushy banana in d end we gave it mushed up maggots and then after a wile moved on to whole maggots.

PS keep em away from large open spaces coz wen we let the sparrow go it got killed almost instantly by a sparrow hawk.

Feed in canned dogfood or catfood. A calcium supplement might be a good idea to replace the bone it would receive naturally. (magpies often feed on other chicks and carrion )
