Some info on the chick:

Breed - Silkie Splash

Age - aprox. 9 weeks

Whats been wrong?
- Slow growth ( Its back is as tall a the top of a pop can)
- Its had sinus/respritory problems like sneezing
- it shakes his head a lot and scratches face.
- low appitite. He doesnt eat a lot but he does eat better when i wet his chick starter thats medicated.
- He is thin.
- I saw once he had little bubbles comeing from his eye like his eye was blowing bubbles.
- he also swollows a lot ike he drank something but didnt.
- He does still ut not too bad breath with his mouth open when he sleeps, only when he sleeps.

What I have done to help him?
- take to vet, they didnt know squat really and gave me amoxicillin liguid to give for 7 days. They helped a bit.
- I got vetrx to open up his sinuses which seems to be a bit better.

I think he may have CRD- chronic respritory diesease or something to do with the Mycoplasma gallisepticum.

I got him from plorable sistuation. He was in a shed since he was a chick and the others he had. It was in a non well ventalated barn/shed. about 30 adults were in rabbit cages that were too smoll for them. After I got chicks i called them in as the pooor chickeens looked mserable...heck a few who were free around the small yard were trying to follow me out the gate home....even the big turkey. If I could i would of taken them all but i dont have that type of money.

The vet suggest i feed him cat food canned to gain eight as he said he had no muscle mass what so ever. So i did and he went crazy over it. He seems to eat better when his chick starter is ddampened so i been doing that.

Anyways I was asking if he does have this? And if Dervet Duramycin will help as i heart its help with crd ir with anything for the mycoplasm

heere is a picture of her or his size its so small but feathers are growing in.

Chronic respiratory disease; CRD,MG,PPLO(pleuropneumonialike organism)infection, stress disease (one form of mycoplasmosis)- common worldwide-chronic spread slowly, last longer in cold weather. symptoms- in 3-8 weeks old-drop in feed consumption, slow growth--in older- droopiness, coughing, sneezing, rattling, gurgling, swollen face, nasal discharge, ruffled feathers, frothy eyes, squeaky crow, drop in laying, sometimes darkened head, loss of appetite, weight loss, yellowish droppings. - affected nearly 100% of the flock-( you do not want this bird with any other birds and other pets).Mortality usually low except in young birds. Resembles other respiratory diseases(infectious coryza, cholera, infectious bronchitis, Newxastle), except that CRD spreads more slowly than most, Cause myxoplasma gallisepticum bacteria, often aided by escherichia coli and/or a reovirus; often seen in combination with cholera, infectious bronchitis, infectious coryza, Newcastle; often follows vaccination for infectious bronchitis or newcastle. Transmission- CONTAGIOUS;CAONTACT WITH INFECTED OR CARRIER BIRDS AND THEIR RESPIRATORY DISCHARGES; INHALING CONTAMINTED DUST; SPREAD FROM BREEDERS THROUGH HATCHING EGGS;SPREADS ON SHOES, CRATES. ETC. Prevention; purchase mycoplasma-freestock; minimize stress dur tp sudden weather changes, feed changes, drafts, chilling , crowding, transpoting, showing, worming, vaccination, dust, and ammonia fumes, vaccinate; after outbreak, clean (because any dirt will prevent the disinfectant from working)and disinfect housing( clorax-strong smelling and toxic to you and the bird until dried lysol -milder and less smelly - Iodine -the safer and non toxic-(BUT all of the disinfectants- you must let stand at least 15 minutes to let it work and then rinse and some work better with hot water and some do not-check and follow all instructions - protect eyes and skin and then air out the area for at least 4 hours or 4 days. Steam cleaning - immediate and non toxic and no need to wait for before you can put your chickens back.--recommended if you have the disease to disinfect and leave empty for a few weeks ( sunshine and intense heat will kill these bacteria and the bacteria needs to have a host -like your chickens or the litter/ droppings to survive). ( DO NOT FORGET TO CLEAN ALL EQUIPMENT AND YOUR FOOT WEAR AND CLOTHING - OH YEAH START FROM THE CEILING AND WORK DOWN THE WALLS -THEN THE FLOOR) Treatment - none effective; (Tylan) or erytromycin (gallimycin) will reduce death rate bur survivors are CARRIERS ; this is a reportable disease in many states. Human risks -none known. I did read the other diseases that may accompany this one-INFECTIOUS BRONCHITIS- THIS IS THE MOST CONTAGIOUS THERE IS- treatment -electrolytes in water- Vita-Tone or others 1 teaspoon per gallon for a least a week- homemade in emergency- i/3 teaspoon potassium chloride(salt substitute from a grocery store)+1/2 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) +1 teaspoon sodium choride( table salt) + 1 quart of water for one week- DISEASE CAN SPREAD IN AIR FOR 1,000 YARDS - AND BE SPREAD THROUGH CONTACT OF SICK BIRDS AND EQUIPMENT. may get secondary disease-AIR SAC DISEASE- TREATMENT-keep bird warm and well fed=high protein rations( dried cat food) and vitamin E supplement. + antibiotics (the same as for CRD). Infectious Coryza -your chicken does not show symptoms of swollen face-reddish foul smelling nasal discharge from the nose, watery eyes with eyelids stuck together, drop in food and water consumption, sometimes diarrhea and rales or wheezing. If he does treatment erythromycin(gallimycin), steptomycin(vetstrep), sulfadimethoxine; disease may recur after treatment is discontinued; culling is preferable since survivors ( including all birds in the flock) maybe carriers. You do know that prolong or repeated treatment can cause the killing of the good flora in the stomach -so give a little live yorgurt to the chicken afterwards. Repeatedly treatment to get rid of a disease that may reoccur again and again means that some survived-and will eventually make a bacteria or what ever into a super bug that is totally resistant to medicines. I know you felt sorry for them- so would I- but now you must keep the coop SUPER CLEAN AND FEED THE BIRD VERY WELL TO BUILD UP HIS IMMUNE SYSTEM-PREVENTION! Look up on you tube, ASK, eHow, yahoo(regular) on food for chickens and get a chicken health book and a how to raise chicken book online- used on Amazon.
