Where you raise your chicks depends on the season the number of chicks you want
the heat source
the air Temperature around the chick as it skitters from feed to water and back should be about 95 degrees for the first week of its life and should decrees per week after that until it reaches 70 degrees at that point they are able to keep themselves warm the best way to provide the heat is by a light bulb if it is a 60 or 100 watt will do and start with the light bulb about 18 inches of the floor and raise it 3 inches per week and use a porcelain socket because a plastic socket will melt after enduring the whole day .
also but the the bulb in a reflector one with protective wire over the front of it to reduce the chances of an accident . also put a thermometer to see if it is to cold or hot
put the cardboard box at least a foot high for added protection
food and water
don't make the water to cold and to hot also not to deep they can still DROWN ! BEWARE ! Also don't let them swim in them they can still get a cold yes the get colds also they will sneeze also don't play with them that much but playing with them isn't a bad thing just not to much
make sure if it is always under the lamp it is to cold if it never goes in it it is too hot
also if it roams and goes in the light and no light you are ok
also put the feed sometimes on the floor to get used to it also buy feed from a local feed store also get dome grit it helps their digestion
