Question:
Do birds really eat peanuts?

I feed birds in the garden with various things -- but none actually eat the peanuts. I have even mixed the peanuts with sunflour seeds, and the birds just pull the sunflower seeds out leaving the peanuts... The other day, I was talking to someone and they said the found just the same...

Are peanuts for birds just a ploy by the peanut marketing board - or is there a feathered thing out there that actually does like them?

Some birds that dont: Magpie, Jackdaw, Rook, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Spotted Woodpecker, Blackbird, Robin, Starling, Thrush, Sparrow, Wren, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Dove, Wood Pidgeon...

Actually all the birds with the exception of Thrush and Rook will take Peanuts.

I t all depends on what other foods are available to them.!

The last few days I have found that the peanuts have not been taken because I have start to put out Sunflower kernels

and the birds know whats best.they go for them first.

I put out bowls of peanuts at a cabin B&B we stayed at in Idyllwild a couple of weeks ago - which were for the squirrels - I watched (and got video) of several Stella Jay's robbing the bowl! They cleaned it out in less than a half hour! And these weren't just peanuts, these were hazelnuts and almonds and other mixed nuts! LOL Back on the homefront, though, I've managed to miss it twice but the squirrels have gone and yet, the feeder is full for a whole week, then suddenly, the last two Mondays, the feeder is suddenly empty! My neighbor thinks it's the crows but they're around all day every day. I think it's two doves I spotted out front this morning. You never see them out front, they're always in the back! I think it's the doves!

All the birds seem to eat peanuts where I am(Blackpool,England)

One of our squirrels turned up with a bad leg and couldn't climb. So I put him some peanuts in a dish on the ground. He ate them OK, and then our hedgehogs came along and THEY ate them!

Always thought hedgehogs were carniverous. Y'know bugs and slugs!

Blue *its, Great *its, long tailed *its in fact all the *its that come to my garden love peanuts, I have found ALL the birds love the suet based feeds best though.

EDIT..I did put the proper spelling for the birds above, but when I clicked on preview all i had was asterisks in place of the second part....How strange.

We do have some birds (e.g. woodpecker) in the garden which eat the peanuts we put out, but not many. The mixed seed and sunflower seed is much more popular.

exoctic birds eat peanuts, such as parrots and parrot related species. wild birds always ate them for me. do some research and you'll find what to feeed them being you know the kinds of birds you are trying to feed

They can eat only natural peanut butter, only a little since its high in fat and not the healthiest food choice.
