OK it's unlikely they're making whoopy unless you have actually seen them do it.....

Female birds can lay eggs regardless of whether they have sex or not. Tell me if I'm wrong but you're presuming they're mating because you see eggs? This is highly unlikely, though not completely 100% impossible as these things have happened in the past with other parrot species.

I'd bet they're not mating, even if they bond togther they will probably never mate & your tiel laying 7 eggs can be quite normal.

Please REMOVE the nest as you're promoting more egg laying & nesting behaviour. This is very unhealthy & draining to your as she'll spend too much time & energy sitting & laying. This isn't good for her health.

Leave the eggs for the ime being, never remove them. Allow her to go through the normal time for egg sitting & once she is bored with this & realizes her eggs won't hatch she'll abandon them. If you remove them now, this will encourage her to continue to lay & can be detremental to her health.

As for wanting the 2 to have babies. Be prepared to cop some flack for saying this as it is NOT good to have 2 species bred & many complications can & often do arrise from these situations. If you're looking forward to something like this happening....#1 sorry to burst the bubble but it aint gunna happen...#2 this is completely frowned apon & you will cop some serious s**t over this for wanting this to happen.

For future? Don't EVER allow this to happen again. And DO NOT attempt to hatch these eggs IF they're fertile.

EDIT: Just for the record, you can view the galahtiel here:

http://talkingbirds.com.au/worldfirst-galah.php

And these two birds are of a distant relation. They're BOTH cockatoo species. This is entirely different to a parrot (lovebird) & cockatoo (tiel) species breeding. You can't compair this to the galahtiel. In that website there is also a pair of otehr native parrots that're somewhat related & bred together.

My point is these parrots have a relation to each other in some way, lovebirds & cockatiels do not, nor do cockatoos of any kind & parrots of any kind.

humor4fms: the galahtiel was NOT purposely done so get off ya high horse! Nor were the birds in a caged. They were in a large avariy with other tiels, those 2 just happened to bond. THIS was an honest mistake that no one ever expected to happen.

Oh....you think it's fake? Well I suggest you not only look at the website I gave but you also get in touch with Lloyd Marshal (being an avian vet you should know who he is) don't know how? I'd be glad to tell you, just let me know if you wanna get this info.

Genetics can & have done the impossible, we all know this is true. And knowing about genetics, you should know this is not like comparing a bear & dog breeding. Now you can compare this to the lovebird & & the tiel, but not the galah & tiel.

You never cease to amze me with some of things you say. I'm really starting to think you need to go back to school.

Sorry.. but I just can't find anything on the particular topic u asked but I must say that

It's very odd though, the way u said that your cockatiel and lovebird were mating!!! Talking about each one being a different species let alone mating.. Lovebirds are very aggressivev type-- and I'm quite suprised your love bird got along with another bird thats not the same speicies. But now I guess u will just wait & see, if the hen warms them & the eggs hatch, with very good job and care.. give the female cuttle bone so she doesn't feel week after laying her clutch & i guess you'll jst have to wait & see what happens then-- you will see what they come out as afterwards....... a interesting hybrid to raise.

Good Luck!

Personally i don't promote hybrids nor do i think what you are doing is morally right. Will they be fertile, who knows. I've seen some really freaky birds as hybrids and it's destroying some fanstastic species because of humans forcing two species to breed that would never breed in the wild.

As for as the galatiel, it's disgusts me to no end that two species would even think of breeding two birds such as the gala cockatoo and a tiel. I still think it's a fake pic and no such thing has ever been bred. Why ruin such two species. Genetically neither one would ever match up to make it possible. You would really have to know genetics to understand the logic of it all to even think it would be remotely possible, it's not. It's like saying a bear and a dog could have offspring if you see what i'm saying.

More so what i find horrible is there is hardly any normal pure grey cockatiels left in the world because of all the splits we now have. They are becoming extinct in themselves. All due to human error and greed to find more mutations of the cockatiel colorations. We are completely forgetting that the normal grey tiel was the first tiel in itself. I'm saying the regular normal grey split to nothing. We will soon find them on the Cites l list and endangered themselves.

It's really sad to see that this is all to common when humans force two species together just to see what would come of the offspring. I highly doubt anything will come of it. The genetics just won't match up, but then gain, one won't know until it happens.

Sometimes birds "Intermate". Its pretty cool because it gives us a chance to see new species come into existance. This doesn't happen alot tho unless birds are forced to mate with a different species because none of their own is around. I should warn you though that it is extremely illegal to "intermate" exotic birds. If you have a Bird in a cage with another bird of a different species, as long as they are the same gender. However if you have a female bird of one species in a cage with a male bird of another, you can have a heavy fine of 250,000 dollars slapped on you by Animal Control for creating new species. If somehow this new species gets loose, it could not only disrupt the eco system, but cause trouble all over. Intermating birds in anyway other than in a Certified Species Analyst lab is very illegal, so I hope you are just kidding. You havn't responded so I'm guessing you are serious. I have animal control tracing your IP address right now. Please write back if this is just some kind of joke

The eggs could be infertile and wont hatch anyway.

I had a female cockatiel that layed lots of eggs but she never care about it, it is probably infertile and she layed it for fun.

So I remove the nest to stop more laying as it could be bad for her. She was alone by the way, her mate already died from unknown reason.

if your tiel's and lovebird eggs were fertile and the tiels incubate it then maybe you could produce another new hybrid. but that has a very very little chance of happening, or even impossible.

Did you heard about the galatiel? Its a cross product between a cockatiel and galah cockatoo.
