One rainy season - if you are lucky. Most umbrellas are considered throw away items that get lost easily, so they are not made to last.

There are some brands that are quite good, but they cost a lot compared to the others, and would you be prepared to spend all that on something you might lose?

If you are thinking of buying a good one such as a gustbuster, you should label it with your name and number. The gustbuster has a little carrier you can slide it into when you travel on the train or bus, and sling it over your shoulder.

Good luck - I left you a link all about umbrellas

Do you mean as in "umbrella cockatoo", or as in "the umbrella you use in the rain"? if its the item, this is in the wrong spot. if u mean the bird, then they can live 40+ years.

If you get a good one and take very good care of it... indefinately. If you get the $4.99 one... it probably is already broken in the case.

if you mean patio umbrella, then for me it seems to be about two freakin' weeks due to all the wind and storms that come out of nowhere lately!
