I have a male Indian Ringneck, 15 months old, he loves eating meat, cooked chicken or beef etc. Is this okay?

He still eats a very balanced diet with aviary mix, sunflower seeds, green vegetables and fruit, but he absolutely loves meat. I only give him a tiny piece but am wondering if it's okay? He also likes cheese, and drinks fruit juice from a shot glass (no alcohol lol). Anyone else have a bird that like to eat meat?

Obviously no one who has answered your question so far knows much about parrot diets. Birds can not only eat meat but they can also eat eggs as protein supplements to their diet. Chicken and turkey are safe enough in small quantities to feed your bird but stay away from beef or pork. Scrambled eggs with veggies added to it (a veggie omelet) is also a great source of protein. If you leave the shell in the omelet, you are also providing a great source of calcium. Birds don't have the enzyme it takes to digest dairy products so keep his cheese to a minimum and use egg shell or crushed oyster shell to provide more calcium to his diet. Juice is OK as well as long as it isn't too much. Drinks with high concentrations of processed sugars aren't very good for them. All natural fruit juices are better. Orange juice with no sugars added is a good one. I add it to my birds' cooked oatmeal some mornings and they love it. Just be sure he isn't sharing the shot glass with you. LOL! We actually have bacteria in our mouths that aren't good for birds to ingest. Good job on feeding your bird more than just seed. For more variety, here is a list of great food for parrots. Birds aren't supposed to eat other birds! I have NEVER heard of a parrot eating meat (and I have 7 birds). Next thing you know he's gonna be trying to eat your fingers off! I would seriously stop feeding him meat.

chicken is not a problem. i also feed my IRN chicken. but not every single day, and PLEASE no oil. its not good for them. Buy Palm oil instead. no fats for your IRN.
