Vitamins are nutrients that the body needs to function well. The body actually manufactures some vitamins such as Vitamin D. Others are called "essential vitamins" because they are needed but not manufactured by the body. A well balanced diet should provide sufficient vitamins, however taking a 0ne-a-Day vitamin (or equivalent) will ensure that you receive the minimum daily requirement if your diet is deficient from time to time. Exercise and proper training build muscle and speed. Some vitamins such as Vitamin A are toxic if taken to excess (some have died from Vitamin A poisoning from eating polar bear liver!). It's not really a vitamin but I really like Creatine. Some researchers also claim it makes you smarter!
I also love whey protein mixed with milk. It's like a shake only much healthier.
