i am an owner of a 7 year old lovebird and i have the SAME EXACT problem. the yolk dries up and vanishes cause shes been probably sitting on it for a long while. and yes she will lay more cause its not fertile except if there is a male then probably not

is your budgie part of a breeding pair? female birds occasionally lay eggs, and it's not unusual for another bird to eat their eggs.. your budgie will probably kick an egg out if it's not fertile (in other words if she hasn't been bred by a male of the same species}. it's nothing to worry about, but next time she lays an egg take it out of the cage a.s.a.p.... if you leave it in there too long it will get rotten and explode, and there's nothing worse than the smell of a rotten egg...

im not quite sure how the egg got out of the bird cage, that is a mistery. yes, your female will lay more eggs, my 2 year old cockatiel just started laying eggs, she has layed 4 since the middle of last year, she isnt going to lay like 1 a day, she will lay how ever many would be in that cluch (group of eggs) it is a female thing and it is natural and wont harm her, but as soon as he lays them, or you notice them, take them out of the cage and dispose of them , they will invite mice, the other females could fight over the egg or she could lay on it and will upset her even more when she relizes it wont hatch. i hope this has helped, and remember! dont stress!! it is perfectly natural, especially for young birds :) when my bird layed her first egg she bled, you cant emagine how much i freaked out!! i thought she was going to die, but after a bit of reaserch, i found out that it is totaly normal for there first egg, in all birds, so if this ever happens to you, DONT FREAK OUT! like i did, good luck!!!
